Key Stage 4
Students choose to study this subject at Key Stage 4 because…

What will you study?
- Nutrition and Health – Nutrients and body functions
- Food Choice – Factors affecting food choice, planning healthy diets
- Food Preparation and Safety – Learn how to work with different types of equipment
- The role of the consumer – Purchasing of food, buying equipment and consumer protection
Course structure
Year 10
The course consists of practical and theory work. You will have 3 food lessons a week, one will be a practical cooking lesson, the other two will be theory work.
Year 11
Coursework – a word processed research project of your choice, prepare meals so that is suitable for your project. You will have to supply your own ingredients for practical sessions. The course does not just involve cooking, but also experiments and class work.

Assessment
The course is Home Economics – Food and Nutrition. It is not the same as Food Technology as it focuses on nutrition and health and not on the developing of new recipes. The exam board is AQA. The written paper is worth 50% of the total marks and coursework the other 50%.
