Food Technology
The Food Technology Department focuses on developing basic skills, for example measuring and following instructions, through practical experience. The objective is to enable students to function independently after leaving school. Therefore nutrition, general health and planning and evaluating meal patterns form an important part of the curriculum. Food technology not only allows the students to have hands on experience in creating a meal they also investigate dietary requirements. Students are also encouraged to cook meals from all cultures allowing them to explore different lifestyles. In food technology, students acquire knowledge and understanding of:
- Basic life skills.
- Knowledge of health and nutrition.
- Meal and menu planning.
- Understanding recipes
- Realising entrepreneurial opportunities
- Packaging and labelling
- Production and marketing of food products
