Notes
All students follow a 3-year course, based around the new National Numeracy Strategy, leading to their SATS examinations in Year 9. This course offers a broad mathematics experience in Number, Algebra, Shape and Space, Data Handling and Problem Solving. Students are placed in sets from Year 7 based on performance at their Primary School, although this is reviewed regularly with students moving between sets to ensure their best progression through KS3 maths. Mathematics staff visit and liase with all local Primary Schools to ensure proper progression from KS2 to KS3.
The range of mathematics topics studied by students provides a strong foundation for both their future maths development and also the mathematical applications necessary for courses offered throughout other departments in school. To support the taught lessons, all students receive mathematics homework each week to consolidate and extend their level of understanding.
