All students participate in core PE at Key Stage 4…
All pupils will participate in a variety of games activities which will build on skills developed in lower School. A variety of techniques, strategies and tactics will be developed. The importance of exercise and activity to personal, social and mental health and well being will be explored. They will also participate in a health related fitness course and activities.
What are the core PE activities?

- Badminton
- Rounders
- Netball
- Volleyball
- Unihoc
Health Related Fitness activities:
- Aerobics
- Circuit Training
- 6 Week Training Programme

Why girls choose GCSE PE option?
- Girls choose to study GCSE PE if they:

What will students study in GCSE PE?
- Performance skills in a variety of physical activities such as games, athletics and health and fitness
- Techniques, tactics, rules and safety considerations to the games/activities taught
- How the skeleton, joints, circulatory, respiratory and muscular systems relate to performance and participation in
- different physical activities
- The importance of exercise and activity to personal, social and mental health and well-being
- How preparation, training and fitness relate to and affect performance
- How to identify and treat simple physical activity and performance type injuries
- Risk assessment in physical activity
Course structure
Students will be required to:
- Participate in physical activity (this can be quite demanding and a reasonable level of fitness is required)
- Select and apply tactics, strategies and team skills
- Evaluate and improve performance
Homework
There is usually one piece per week
Assessment
- 60% - four practical activities, assessed by the teacher( this includes 10% for the analysis of performance which is the only written piece of coursework)
- 40% - final exam
