Why girls choose to study Drama
Girls choose to study drama if they:
- Want to build their confidence
- Want to learn about valuing others opinions and learning why compromise is good for them
- Enjoy activity based learning
- Wish to develop inter and intra personal skills
- Enjoy co-operative based learning
- like to have fun
What will students study?
- Develop acting and production roles to a high standard
- Plays, playwrights and drama theorists
- Develop movement skills to a higher level than at KS3 Drama
- Greek theatre (where theatre originated)
- Acting and Acting support (lighting, sound, costume and make up etc.)
Course structure
Set over two years allowing adequate time to develop and nurture students’ abilities as GCSE Drama provides a sound foundation for “A” level Drama
Homework
- Written tasks, “working notebook” to reflect on practical work

Gathering of drama stimulus material (song lyrics, artwork, music, poems etc.)
Assessment
- 60% coursework – practical and written (internal assessment/externally moderated)
- 40% practical exam – external assessment
