Why girls choose to study Drama

Girls choose to study drama if they:

  • Want to build their confidence
  • Want to learn about valuing others opinions and learning why compromise is good for them
  • Enjoy activity based learning
  • Wish to develop inter and intra personal skills
  • Enjoy co-operative based learning
  • like to have fun

What will students study?

  • Develop acting and production roles to a high standard
  • Plays, playwrights and drama theorists
  • Develop movement skills to a higher level than at KS3 Drama
  • Greek theatre (where theatre originated)
  • Acting and Acting support (lighting, sound, costume and make up etc.)

Course structure

Set over two years allowing adequate time to develop and nurture students’ abilities as GCSE Drama provides a sound foundation for “A” level Drama

Homework

  • Written tasks, “working notebook” to reflect on practical work
  • Gathering of drama stimulus material (song lyrics, artwork, music, poems etc.)

Assessment

  • 60% coursework – practical and written (internal assessment/externally moderated)
  • 40% practical exam – external assessment
