Science Specialism

Connaught was invited to take our second subject specialism in Science with Mathematics from 2006. This award brings additional funding into school, to be used for the development and improvement of teaching and learning in Science and Mathematics.

There is currently a large investment in a wireless laptop experience for students learning science in our Annex building. 40 new thin client laptops will be able to connect to the latests datalogging equpiment, access internet resources and connect to student file areas on the main school network. This technology is having a 'spin-off' in other areas across the school. All Study Plus students in Years 10 and 11 will be loaned a thin client laptop for use at home, accessing the internet and school files using the latest 3G mobile phone network technology.

Working with our main feeder Primary schools, we are proving specialist science teaching to Year 5 and 6 classes in our well resourced laboratories. Primary school teachers are able to plan a programme of ativities with our staff that match help provide learning opportunities that can be difficult without subject expertise or the required resources.

We provide a spectacular array of activities during National Science Week each year ( 2007 Photos) for our students and our local primary school pupils and other activities and visits for our own students have been improved and extended, including:

• university lectures and visits
• competitions
• high quality revision programmes
