Year 9 visit the Holocaust Exhibition
A selection of Year 9 students visited to the Imperial War Museum in central London on Thursday 20th October 2011. They visited the Holocaust exhibition; a permanent exhibition aimed at raising awareness of the terrible events that took place.
The students had an orienteering session with a full time Holocaust educator who explained the events leading up to, and during the Holocaust of World War Two. The students were excellent and showed great depth of knowledge and understanding of the sensitive materials. The educator was so impressed with the maturity and analytical knowledge of the students that they were given tasks used for GCSE students, commenting "I have been working at the exhibition as a full time Holocaust educator for 5 years and this is possibly the best group of students I have ever worked with".
The students then spent time going around the exhibition looking at all the displays and materials available before coming back to the educator to debrief.
The students found the day hugely rewarding and a powerful experience. They will now take their in-depth knowledge back to school classes where they will be making presentations to their classmates.
