Year 9 Technology Workshop

In February 2008 all Year 9 students had a 4-hour stretch in the main school hall to work in design teams of 3 with Mr Darcy Turner a local designer/inventor.The brief for students was to design and make using wire a sculpture that will move in the wind. This year Darcy demonstrated the use of wire and his masking tape dispensing machine to make wind sculptures.

We are really grateful to Darcy for his annual work with Connaught technology students.Darcy Turner is committed to reusing waste, old newspapers, to be precise. Trained at the London College of Furniture, he rolls papers into loose tubes, brushing them with a slick of wallpaper paste and feeding them through a home-made gizmo resembling a giant cigarette roller. The result is hard papier-mâché rods which he binds together into furniture, using cable ties.
