Year 10 Brunei Gallery Visit

GCSE Art students from Connaught School for Girls were treated to storytelling, poetry reading and drama at the Brunei Gallery, School of Oriental and African Studies on Wednesday 13th February 2008. This special event was held to celebrate work created by Connaught and other London students during an education programme inspired by the many beautiful books and manuscripts from all over Asia and Africa that are exhibited at the gallery.

Throughout the autumn term the girls have been making books about themselves, inspired by their exploration of book structures, calligraphy and symbolic imagery at the gallery and intensive work back at school. Connaught Art teacher Gill Wensley said, "Our students produced some highly original work. They were fascinated to learn about how to make books and they were really proud to see their finished products on display". An exhibition of the students work, ‘Objects of Instruction’ will be on display outside the Khalili Lecture Theatre at the School of Oriental and African Studies on Thornhaugh Street, Russell Square from 13th February to 29th February 2008.
