Royal Academy of Arts Visit - Nov 2011

Student Report by Narmeen Mohammed 10W

On Wednesday 16th November the Year 10 GCSE Art classes visited the ' Degas and the Ballet Picturing Movement' exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts and we had a great day!

We are currently studying an artist who painted and sketched movement rather than a fixed pose. The trip was to see how he did this, as the students went to see his paintings, sculptures and sketches followed by a workshop where they had to do several Degas-like images with a model posing in ballet positions.

All the students were positive, well behaved and great representatives of Connaught. Some members of the public visiting the exhibition commented on how outstanding the Year 10 GCSE students were. They also commented on how great the student’s artwork was.

Here are some comments made by a few of the students:

“It influenced me to look at movement in a whole new way” Sarah Asif 10S

“The workshop gave me lots of ideas of how I should present my artwork” Dipika Islam 10S

“It opened my eyes to a whole new type of art which is movement shown through pictures and I enjoyed it very much” Zobya Khan 10S

“It was a really good experience overall because we learnt so much about Degas. Also it benefitted us for our coursework” Aisha Durrani 10F

All the Year 10 GCSE Art students would like to thank the Art students would like to thank the Art Department for organising such a phenomenal experience!
