Connaught School for Girls at BAFTA!

Connaught School for Girls has been recognised by the Specialist School and Academies Trust (SSAT) at two awards ceremonies at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA).

Connaught achieved recognition by improving GCSE exam results between 2004 and 2007 and for adding high value to students' achievements in the GCSE results for 2007. The ‘value added’ measure identifies the schools where students make the best progress after leaving primary education. Deputy Headteacher Gareth Cross attended a celebratory dinner at where Connaught was one of just over 500 schools and academies congratulated for their value added achievements. Speaking after the event Mr Cross commented, “At Connaught dedicated staff give our girls every opportunity to succeed and their wonderful achievements deserve this recognition.”

The SSAT is the leading National Body for secondary education in England and delivers the Government’s Specialist Schools and Academies programme. Commenting on the schools’ excellent achievements, Chief Executive for the Trust, Elizabeth Reid said, “It is important that we recognise success in the education system, as it is the product of hard work, good leadership and innovative approaches to teaching and learning.I would like to congratulate these schools for their outstanding achievement in adding value to their students’ results.”

After a successful Ofsted inspection in November 2007, Connaught was redesignated as a Specialist School in February 2008. All staff at the school are very proud of the increase of pupils gaining 5 GCSE grades at A* - C including English and Maths. Headteacher, Mrs Ann Betts said “This is the true indication of continued improvement as more students can consider further education at college.”
